Today is good because…

… I made apple muffins for breakfast

… I received an e-mail from Canon. My camera is repaired and should be delivered tomorrow. And it was covered under the warrantee!

… I finally started organizing patterns I’ve printed out from the Internet, and putting them in a 3-ring binder.

… Our realtor called and we have a showing scheduled for Monday!

I like this trend. Let’s hope it keeps up.

It’s What Day, Now?

Three-day weekends always leave me feeling confused because Monday ends up feeling like a Sunday, Tuesday like a Monday and so on. We had a nice time away. The hotel was lovely and the staff was very friendly. It’s too bad the majority of guests were miserable crows. I don’t know if they were West Point alums, parents, or people just visiting, but they didn’t leave a good impression. When we were checking in… complain. When we were checking out… complain. And just forget about when we went to dinner on Sunday night. (This gets long, so go to the bathroom if you need to, make a cup of tea, get a snack, whatever…) (more…)

Are We There Yet?

OK, so we don’t leave until tomorrow morning and West Point is not far at all, but I really can’t wait to go. Some things I am looking forward to:

  • Sleeping past 4:30 or 5 AM.
  • Going to the bathroom without having to protect the TP from N.
  • Eating while sitting down
  • Not having to coax anyone off of the table
  • No crying/whining for 24+ hours
  • Not having to spend every waking minute of the day picking crap up off the floor
  • Not having to listen to children’s music or watch children’s programming
  • Not stepping on any Lego blocks

Simple pleasures, I tell you. Your entire perspective changes once you become a parent. Five years ago, none of these things would even have crossed my mind; I’d be looking forward eating at nice restaurants, enjoying the Hudson River views, going on tours, shopping, and so forth. And yes I’m looking forward to all that too, but they’re not the first things that come to my mind anymore. Of course I’m sure I’ll miss my little guys, but they’ll be having a great time with Grandma. And we all need to get away from it all once in a while.

I can’t wait!!!

What’s New…

Eh, not much is new, really. Same old day-to-day stuff, I guess. Over the weekend we went to a Harvest Festival fundraiser for J.’s nursery school. It was at Roseland Ranch and the owner donating everything — the use of the grounds (which included things like horse rides, hay rides, archery, shooting range use — that kind of weirded me out for a preschool event, but the range was not in the immediate vicinity — and food except beer, wine, and soda). The food was really good, too: hamburgers, hot dogs with chili and sauerkraut if you wanted it, BBQ chicken, fries, homemade mac & cheese, salad, cake, Jell-O, soft-serv ice cream, some pastries, coffee, tea (Starbucks and Tazo!), fruit punch, iced tea, lemonade… it was a huge undertaking and incredibly generous to donate everything.

SP9 Questionnaire

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like? My favorite yarn to knit with, so far, is Patons Classic Merino Wool. It’s just so soft and cozy, plus it felts really well. I also enjoy knitting with Bernat Satin, for an acrylic yarn. It’s easy on the hands and has a nice sheen. I don’t really like knitting with the really cheap Red Heart SuperSaver-type yarns (though I’m using it now for a hat for my son) and generally I don’t like most eyelash yarns (though I have some Patons Cha-Cha because it makes good icing for those cupcakes in “One Skein”). I think some novelty yarns are fun in small doses. Until very recently I didn’t want to spend a lot of yarn because I wasn’t sure knitting was a hobby I’d stick with, but I’ve found myself becoming a little choosier. Overall I prefer wool and wool-blends, but nothing that sheds a lot.
