Rest In Peace, Beets

Well, this morning we had the flushing ceremony for Beets, my Calico Ryukin Goldfish. He didn’t even live a month (nor did the three small Fantails I bought that same day — they lasted maybe a week and a half). I have no idea what happened with Beets; one morning it looked like his mouth had been half-chewed off. Now, I doubt either of our other two goldfish attacked Beets. They’ve co-existed peacefully with other fish for nearly three years. I hope it wasn’t a parasite that is going to spread to the other two goldfish. I’d venture to guess that PetSmart just isn’t the best place for fish, even though Hulk and Enid came from there. Even though it’s just a fish, I’m still a little bummed. He was a cute little guy.

  1. Ohhh, I’m really sorry! That sucks. 🙁 I hope that nothing will bother your other fish ~ that’s kind of scary! You’d think that PetSmart would be a fine place to buy them. Is Jake pretty upset about the loss?

  2. Sorry about Beets. Do you have any medicine drops? I would put a few in the tank just in case it was so kind of disease. You would be surprised what the other fish can do, though, if one of their own is sick. They will pick on them to death. Hope the rest of the tank stays healthy. And yes, PetSmart does tend to sell sick fish…if you can find an aquarium store, they would tend to have healthier fish. They may be a bit more expensive, but it’s usually worth it.
