It may be the beginning of March, but I swear to you, when you have young kids all holidays exist year-round. Can you believe that my children are already talking about their Halloween costumes for this year? I reminded them that October is months away. They didn’t seem bothered by it. My youngest, in particular, is excited. She even wants to dress up the cats. Now, I’m not sure you can find feline eqivalents to dog Halloween costumes, but she is determined to try! Of course, their minds will change more than a dozen times before it’s actually the season to spook. We will see what they actually decide on then!

New Toys
My husband came home from a business trip — hooray! He was just telling me that he got a few more offers for gigs, so we will have to see which are possible. In the meantime, he is checking out GC’s new products and seeing what might be useful to him for small clubs in the city. He was thinking about a new pedal board, I know… I’m very excited for him because I know he’s missed playing music for people. We’ll see what happens!
Music in the City
Last month my husband had the very cool oppotunity to play at a club in NYC. It’s been a long time since he did that. A really long time! Needess to say he was thrilled. He did an acoustic show, so he left his electric guitar at home. His friend didn’t bring the electric drums by yamaha, either. But it was a ton of fun. The promoter is trying to get him to play a few more shows, but it’s hard since the kids are back in school. But you never know…
Holiday Party Time
‘Tis the season for entertaining! Have you gone to any holiday parties yet? Maybe you’re planning one? Last year we did a Christmas movie night, but I don’t think we are going to do anything much this year. There’s a party this weekend that I had to pass on, but the hosts are really doing it up — catered food, music (not sure if it is the joe bunn dj company or someone else). I have a conflict in my schedule, though, so I guess I’ll have to wait to hear back from some friends.
Actually, I think the only entertaining we plan to do is on Christmas Day when our family visits. And that’s OK with me. It’s kind of nice to keep it low key sometimes. We definitely have enough going on!
Rockin’ Out
So, Noah is in 4th grade this year, and you know what that means… Band instrument time! He’s chosen percussion. We have a few things to pick up for his lessons, so we will probably check out guitarceneter and hopefully finish up the music shopping. He is very excited. He definitely has Drew’s musical gene. Even over the summer when he was noodling around on the drums he sounded great! I can’t wait to see what kind of progress he makes over the next few months.
Crafting up a Storm
It’s going to be strange with all three kids in school. The first few days, L. just has class in the morning, but starting next week she will be in school all day long like her brothers. So I’ve been thinking about getting back on Etsy or selling my crafts on Facebook. I’m not sure about… just thinking. I was digging through my closet the other day and found all my hair bow things. If I found heat guns, I could shrink wrap my barrettes and make them look really pretty. Craft fairs, maybe? We’ll see… it would be nice to do a little something, but still have the flexibility to be around for the kids.
Decluttering
Every few months I get into one of those moods… you know, when you realize how much “stuff” you have and feel the need to simplify a little bit. The other day I donated three big bags of old clothes and shoes. I’ve been going through old paperwork and shredding stuff I don’t need to keep. And I’ve been selling on eBay. Luckily, I’m not a huge eBay seller so I don’t have to worry about anything for small business tax prep, but it is definitely nice to make a few extra bucks. I really need to curb my “impulse” purchases I think!
Drummer Like Me
Noah is entering 4th grade in the fall. That means he can start taking music lessons at school! He has chosen to play percussion. Luckily for him, that was the band instrument assigned to him. (Because percussion is so popular, not everyone who wants it, gets it). But he did! He already has a drum kit and loves playing, so hopefully the lessons will encourage him even more. Drew has ordered a few items from Musicians friend for Noah. He’ll get the sticks and practice pad for his birthday. (Perfect timing, right?) I can’t wait to see how he does with the drums and bells. He seems to have a natural knack for it — I think it’s a great match.
Hey Scout
So, last weekend was a big scouting thing at the local fairgrounds. The boys had an amazing time!!! We had a lot of fun, too. They had all kinds of Scout Stuff… hats, shirts, probably even a Scouting Camera. Jake got to try out welding. The boys traversed a monkey bridge, did some slingshot practice, and all and all just had a day full of fun.
The guys camped out while Laura and I came home. We were beat (and I was sunburned), and we both zonked out early. I’ll have to get my photos off my camera and post some soon!
