Sexy Sommeliers

What does a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon have in common with a crotchless panty? I found this while looking for news for my wine blog — apparently there’s an adult store in New York City that has started doing wine tastings. They tasted wines with salacious names such as Seduction Cabernet and Foreplay Chardonnay. How freaking funny is that? Hey, just goes to show that everyone enjoys a nice glass of vino. Even the kinky crowd.

Scrappy Giveaway Contest!!!

scrappygiveaway.jpg I’m so excited about hosting my first-ever blog contest! This one is mutually beneficial — I get to give away scrapbooking and stamping supplies that I am no longer using and you get to a chance to win them. Basically what I did was this: I found a box. Then I filled the box up with as many things as I could fit in it. Then, I took a photo so you all can get a peek:

All you have to do to enter is write a blog post about anything craft-related (scrapbooking, stamping, sewing, quilting, knitting… anything) and link back to this post (http://puresugar.net/?p=465). If you are feeling generous with the linky-love, you can link to http://www.puresugar.net as well. Leave a comment and/or a trackback for me so I know that you’ve entered. The contest will end on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13th, and on Friday I’ll write down the names of all the contestants, put them in a basket, and Jake will draw the lucky winner. Easy, easy! If you want to use the graphic, feel free, but please save it to your own server or upload to a site like Photobucket. This is open to anyone in the U.S. or Canada (sorry, but this package is heavy and postage might get expensive). Good luck!

Contest in the works!!!

Stay tuned, dear readers, because I am putting together a little contest. I’ve noticed quite a few other bloggers doing this lately and I thought I’d join in on the fun. Now, now, don’t get TOO excited. It’s not like I’m giving away a vacation with free Mendocino lodging or something equally as fabulous. But if you’re a crafter, you might be interested. After thinking long and hard, I am seriously destashing my stamping and scrapbooking stuff. It’s taking up space, and I’m not going to use the majority of it. I’m going to be putting together what I think is a pretty decent prize package and all you’ll have to do enter is link to me. It will be that easy!!! I’d like to get some new readers, and I thought this might be a fun way of luring people in, heh heh heh. Don’t misunderstand, though! I loooove everyone who’s been reading me for ages, but I think most of you understand the need for more links, more readers, etc. And likewise I would love to discover some new blogs through this too! Hopefully I’ll have it together by the end of the week, but it will be no later than the beginning of next week, so be sure to keep checking back!

Pamper Me Contest

pampermecontestbanner.gif

I’ve recently discovered the blog Just Not Martha and I’ve really been enjoying Loretta’s posts. She’s hosting a “Pamper Me” contest with an awesome prize from The Scented Tub, and after the week I’ve been having, I would love to win! I could totally use some pampering, and the bath products look awesome. Believe it or not, I am nearing the end of my bath gel stash! Since I don’t really have a lot of free time to go out and get manicures or massages (though any and all would be happily accepted, LOL), my favorite way to wind down is to take a long, hot bath after the boys are in bed. I’m very lucky to have a 6-foot Jacuzzi tub (yes, it was one of the reasons we bought our house — no, I’m not even kidding), and I make good use of that! Even when I’ve had an incredibly difficult day, my worries seem to just melt away, if only for a little while. It’s the simple things, you know?

Breaking News!

cnn.jpg

I just was looking at CNN.com and noticed the Breaking News banner. Wow. Jenna Bush is engaged. Yes, certainly noteworthy. Let’s not talk about the plummeting stock market, the Peruvian earthquake, or any of the hurricanes on the horizon. Let’s talk about someone whose only “importance” (if you want to call it that) is the fact that she is the President’s daughter.

When I asked Drew why this would be considered breaking news, he said, “Well she must have been sober enough to say yes. That’s pretty amazing!”

But all joking aside, I wish the news would just be the news and leave the celebrity crap to People magazine and Us Weekly.

And How Do I Feel About That?

I’ll be honest. It was not easy writing that last post without launching into a lot of arguements. I did it NOT because I agree with BP’s side (because I don’t — I don’t think the trade-off is worth it), but because I think the topic of responsible reporting is important, and even though I agree with the Tribune reporter and think he did an OK job with the facts (I can’t really see where he twisted anything), the fact is: the article does show bias. And that’s not right. I get pissed off listening to how FOX news interprets the facts, so I can’t be a hypocrite and pretend not to see it on the other side, even if its the side I’m on.

Of course, if you search for BP on Technorati today, you’ll see a great many posts on the same topic, and most people have strayed from the question of journalism ethics and instead turned it into an environmentalists vs. BP arguement. (Poor, poor big business, right? Especially under the Bush administration — they just don’t have a chance.) I’m sure that’s exactly what the company wanted and I have to admit that they have a very savvy spin doctor working their damage control. Way to go whoever thought to get a bunch of personal blogs to talk about this.

The whole thing is fascinating to me on so many different levels.

Virginia is for lovers slowpokes

Earlier this week I heard a news story on the radio that now, in the state of Virgina, you could be fined $3,000 if you’re nabbed driving over 80 MPH. I thought this sounded crazy so I looked it up and it’s totally true. If you are driving more that 20 miles over the posted speed limit, it’s considered “reckless.” I considered this later that evening as I was driving home from work on 684. The posted speed limit is 65 MPH. I looked down at my speedometer and noted that I was driving close to 80 MPH, and people were passing me in both the right lane and left lane who had to be doing closer to 90 or 95, easily. I can’t imagine what would happen if New York set fines this steep. There are plenty of drivers who, I’m sure, already have a radar detector in their car, but I’m going to guess they’ll be selling lots more in Virginia these days. Lucky for me, I am actually a pretty slow driver. Hard to believe, I know, driving 80, but it’s true. At least in comparision to everyone else on the road! Hopefully they’ll put the money to good use.
