Currently Crocheting…

Hello, friends! Finally checking in (yes, I really am still here) with a couple crochet projects I’m working on. I have two going at the moment — one is pretty mindless and can be done anywhere, and the other takes a little more focus, but is one that I am just loving! Shall we take a look?

First up — my granny cocoon shrug. I pinned this pattern quite some time ago, but never really got around to starting one for some reason. A few weeks ago, I hit a fantastic yarn sale and decided to purchase enough navy yarn for this project. Originally, I wanted to use the Painted Canyon yarn from Hobby Lobby, but it always seems to be out of stock. I don’t have a navy sweater and thought it would be a great basic color to have.

So round and round I go making this large granny square, and then I will seam up the sides to create the armholes once it’s big enough. I like to work on this while watching TV or bring it along when I have to wait anywhere (brought it to the shop when I got my oil changed this morning, for example).

But the more interesting project is the Atlanticus blanket! I decided to join in the CAL (crochet along) — something I’ve never done — and it’s been such a joy working on this project. It is challenging enough to be very interesting, but it’s not frustrating. I’m just taking my time, counting my stitches, and loving how it all is coming together. A crochet break is definitely a must on most days!

I’m just using stash yarn for this, so I will go until I run out I guess! Funny thing is… I just realized how the blanket matches my hook case! How funny is that?

I’m currently up to round 20. I can’t say it’s a difficult pattern even though it looks complex. You do have to pay attention to your stitches, obviously, but it is just so fun to work on.

It’s definitely been a while since I’ve been so hooked on a pattern (no pun intented! OK, well maybe a little bit intended). I just can’t wait to see how it all comes together!

Beyond Record Store Day

My teenage son and husband are obsessed with records. You read that right — LPs are back, if you didn’t know! There are a few stores around where they like to browse. Used to just be music shops selling guitars, gear, etc. interested them but now they’re always on the lookout for albums, too. I can just imagine my husband going on a business trip and doing a quick search for something like music stores columbus ohio so he could plan ahead and make sure he got to check out cool shops! Because you never know when you’ll find a place that has both — music gear AND the music you’ve been looking for!

It’s May!

Well, it’s been a while since I participated in HHM, so I thought I would go ahead today. I’ve pretty much caught up with my to-do list, made a batch of black bean and orzo salad this week, made some cretons, and dinner is prepped.

The weather:::
It’s kind of cloudy out there now, but the sun occasionaly breaks through. It’s not warm, but not cool — kind of an odd in-between. Sadly, it looks like we are in for a cooler week, and I am especially unhappy about that because I wanted to have Laura’s First Communion party outside on Saturday, but I’m not sure that will happen.

On my reading pile:::
I’ve got two books to start. I’ve been on the waiting this forever for these, and of course they arrive during a super busy time!

What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::
I feel like I’ve lost my crafting mojo. I want to crochet, but I’m really not sure what to make. So I’ve just been reorganizing all my patterns, trying to find some inspiration. There are a million projects I want to start (cocoon sweater, Open Air Market Scarf, finish up any one of my UFOs… I just can’t commit for some reason.  All else fails, there are always dishcloths, just to keep my hands busy. I think I may start one tonight and see if I can get inspired.

Looking around the house:::

Things are not too bad around the house because I’ve been trying to keep things under control. I don’t have a lot of extra time this week and I don’t want to freak out over the house not being ready for Saturday.

From the camera:::

My sand cherry has the prettiest, most delicate flowers. I love when it blooms!

What I’m wearing today:::
Jeans and a tee-shirt. Pretty standard!

One of my simple pleasure:::
Seeing flowers start to bloom. It is amazing to me that these plants keep coming back, no matter how hard the winter. (Something to think about, I suppose). I was also really happy to see new baby growth on my lavender plant. This is, I think, the third year that I’ve had it! Maybe I’ll get another one — or maybe I shouldn’t press my luck 😉
