Off We Go to Kindergarten

Jake walking in Last night was the “graduation” ceremony for Jake’s nursery school class. The kids all looked ridiculously cute! It was held at a local park, and though I was convinced it was going to rain, the precipitation held off and it was just overcast and a little cool. The children all sang a song and then the teachers introduced each one. Each child had answered a series of questions and the teachers gave us their answers. So cute! Here are Jake’s answers:

What is your favorite food? Pizza
What is your favorite color? Pink
What do you want to be when you grow up? A dad
What is your favorite thing to snuggle with? Sammy

Sammy is his stuffed mouse, in case you are curious. Drew was very touched by the “dad” answer. When he asked Jake why he wants to be a dad Jake said, “Because I want to take care of little kids!” How sweet is that?

Afterwards there was a potluck dinner. I took the easy way out and signed up for bringing paper cups and plastic silverware (and I’m glad I did because I’ve been sick with a cold all week and would not have had the energy to make something for 160 people.) The downside was that it all started at 6 PM, which is already 20 minutes away from Noah’s bedtime, so by the time we got around to eating, he was quite crabby. Plus, it was at a park, after all, so trying to keep him from doing anything except playing was a challenge. I wish they’d held it on a Sunday afternoon or something.

At any rate it is done and over with, and no school until September. (I am already selfishly mourning the small amount of quiet time I had on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays while Jake was at school and Noah was napping.) It’s pretty amazing how much they grow in a year (not even). Behold photos from his first day of nursery school and his last day of nursery school:

  1. Aww! Congratulations to Jake! What a sweetie he is for saying he wants to be a dad when he grows up. Too cute! Gosh, when did he get so big? I can’t believe he’s going into kindergarten.

  2. So when he goes off to kindergarten, he’ll attend for a half day? I can’t believe that he’s ready for that big milestone already. Time flies! You’ll have to tell me what it’s like to see your child go off to school so that I can prepare. 🙂 I can’t believe that they have nursery school “graduations.” Seems a little strange to me (they don’t do that in Indiana, as far as I know), but Jake looked *soooooo* freaking cute! Love the pictures! 🙂

  3. Ohhh, and his comment about wanting to be a dad … you *so* have to remind him of that when he gets married and has his first child … that is *so* precious!!! And I love that he loves the color pink! 🙂

  4. Lisanne, I had nursery school graduation in South Bend, but we didn’t wear caps and gowns. It was more of a end of year program where we sang a lot of songs and then got little certificates.

  5. Yeah, we had a ceremony when we were in nursery school too, and I think over the years that’s just evolved into what most schools do now. Oh, and he’ll be in full-day Kindergarten. I don’t know too many places that do half-day anymore. I think it’s a long day for the kids and wish they eased them in with maybe a couple weeks of half-day, but they don’t.

  6. I just love the fact he is wearing plaid!! Its a plaid plaid plaid world .. UGh .. RIP Mighty Mighty Bosstones ..

  7. Awwww I just love the little cap and gowns… soooo cute… and I love the first day of school picks and the last day one… sooo cute!! And why was it so late at night… that is crazy!
