No Stinky Celeb Wine, Whew!

I’ve been kind of fascinated by the whole Jolie-Pitt buying a vineyard thing. I am not a fan of either one of them, so if they did indeed buy wine property in France I wanted to know what it was so I could avoid it. Well, never fear! They’re not going to be crushing grapes anytime soon. From Decanter:

The Hollywood stars visited Chateau Val Joanis, in the Luberon region north of Aix-en-Provence, last Wednesday, prompting reports on several websites that the couple were planning to buy the property.

However a spokesperson for the 186ha estate said that they had no intention of buying.

‘They visited the chateau and found it very pretty,’ said the spokeswoman. ‘But there’s no truth in the rumour that they wanted to buy it.’

I know my husband will be devastated over this news. Somehow I imagine he’ll carry on and find a way to continue to appreciate fine wine.

And yet another reason I love the French: they, too, seem to dislike the Hollywood darlings. From the National Ledger:

It appears that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie didn’t make many friends in France during their last trip. Besides fighting among themselves it appears that they are now branching out and battling with the locals, specifically one owner of a luxury French chateau. The report claims that Brangelina brought in a helicopter to survey his property and he was not happy as they didn’t have permission.

One of the owners reportedly fumed: “It was almost like an invasion – Brad Pitt thinks he’s God.” He told the visitors to hover off after a member of the entourage asked if they could all look round the property.

I bet Jerry Lewis never acted that way!

  1. That last thing isn’t necessarily true – the National Ledger is about as reliable as something scrawled in marker on a piece of toilet paper. 🙂

  2. Celebrity wine is kind of interesting. I’ve heard that Coppola’s is pretty good. What’s really interesting is that Maynard James Keenan (frontman for Tool and A Perfect Circle) is really into winemaking and wine now too… but I read an interview in a music mag a while back where he was completely belittling celebrity wines and going on about the usual mystical gobbledeygook he’s always spouting about everything, this time regarding wine. (And I’m not putting him down; he’s one of my favorite music artists on the planet, it’s just that he can be, I think purposefully, a bit obtuse in interviews). Here’s an interview with him from Wine Spectator that is a bit more comprehensible:

If you guys can even get your hands on any of his wine, I’d be interested to know what you think.
