Some fluff for you on this Friday, via Christina. The housekeeping survey:
Aprons – Y/N? Sometimes. If we’re having any kind of party I always wear one. Unfortunately, mine are kind of ugly. I’ve been thinking of buying one from Sommer Designs for a long time, and I keep saying I’ll do it when we move (so I’ll have something nice for my new kitchen).
Baking – Favorite thing to bake? I am best at baking pies, however cakes are actually my favorite thing to bake. I love the fillings, the layering, the frosting… I like big projects, in other words.
Clothesline – Y/N? My parents always had a clothesline and I have memories of clothes actually freezing on it in the winter (though my mom might deny that). We don’t have one here, however.
Donuts – Ever made them? No, but a friend just shared a recipe for baked doughnuts and I really want to give it a try.
Everyday – One homemaking thing you do everyday? Set the bed. I can’t sleep in an unmade bed. Even if I do it right before I get in, it’s something that has to be done.
Freezer – Do you have a separate deep freezer? No, and I really don’t want one. My parents had one while we were growing up and it was so hard to keep track of what was in there and how long it’s been in there. I have a feeling that if I had one, I would end up with a lot of wasted, freezerburned food.
Garbage disposal – Y/N? No.
Handbook – Y/N? No. Unless you count cookbooks.
Ironing – love it or hate it? Who needs to iron when you can just pull clothes out of the dryer while they are still damp and hang them up to finish drying?
Junk drawer – Where is it? No longer exists. Junk drawer had to be dumped into a junk bag and put up in the closet because Noah kept getting in there.
Kitchen – Design and decorating? No real rhyme or reason. Lots of hunter green, purple, and maroon, though.
Love – What is your favorite part of homemaking? The satisfaction that comes with a sparkling clean bathtub.
Mop – Y/N? Swiffer Wet Jet.
Nylons – Wash them by hand or in the washer? Thow ’em in the washer on the rare occasions that I do wear them.
Oven – Do you use the window or open it to check? I try to use the window, but sometimes you have to open up the door.
Pizza – What do you put on yours? I enjoy pretty much everything except for anchovies (Drew goes for the ‘choves, though). My favorite is either chicken and broccoli, or what I like to call “heartburn heaven” — hot Italian sausage, onions, peppers, mozzarella, and provelone.
Quiet – What do you do during the day when you get a quiet moment? Quiet? What’s that? Oh, I know — it’s the hour I get on MWF when Jake’s at school and Noah’s napping. I usually try to clean up a bit, return phone calls, that kind of stuff and if time allows then have a cup of tea and knit or just try to have a few minutes to myself.
Recipe card box – Y/N? Not really. I keep most of my recipes online, though I do have a notebook as well.
Style of house – 3 bed, 2.5 bath mahogany-sided Cape.
Tablecloths and napkins – Y/N? Not unless I want to spend a half-hour using Stain Stick. Two small boys, remember?
Under the kitchen sink – The garbage can and extra flower pots and vases.
Vacuum – How many times a week? Every other day.
Wash – A lot.
X’es – Do you keep a list of things to do and cross them off? No. I’m not one to make to-do lists. I’m lucky if I remember to write up (and take to the store) my grocery list.
Yard – Who does what? Honestly, the past year all we’ve done is keep the lawn mowed, and Drew does that. I have a hard time getting exciting about pretty-ing up a place I can’t wait to leave.
ZZZ’s – What is your last homemaking task for the day? Making sure there are no dishes in the sink. I hate, hate, hate waking up and seeing even one sitting there.
