Weekend Chatter

I hope everyone is having as nice of a weekend as we are! Friday was, of course, Halloween. I had volunteered to help out with some fall-themed math games in Jake’s 1st grade class in the afternoon. It was a lot of fun! I was in charge of the pumpkin bowling center. The kids knocked down the pins with a small pumpkin and then had to write their score using tally marks. It was interesting to see all the different personalities. I found it especially interesting that the boys were eager to help me re-set the pins, while the girls preferred to chatter with each other between turns. I was only there for an hour and a half, but whew — it was exhausting! I do love Jake’s teacher and her methods (she is really into the responsive classroom approach to educating). Drew and I both feel that it is working really well for Jake and the calm control she has over the class is so impressive. You can tell that the kids all feel like they are important. It’s awesome.

Friday evening we went trick-or-treating at the mall. Living in the boonies, going door-to-door just isn’t an option for us. The mall is a safe alternative (plus it’s heated, LOL!). My pirate and devil had tons of fun and they’ve been so good about not begging for candy constantly. They’ve each gotten to choose one piece a day and so far no complaints.

Yesterday we went up to Lisanne‘s for Meredith’s 2nd birthday party. I totally pigged out on the salsa verde that she made! (It was sooo good, even if she says she didn’t like it — don’t believe her!) Another treat was getting to meet Ani of Foodie Chickie, as well as her husband and adorable daughter. I have not met too many blog friends in real life, so it’s always exciting for me. We all had a great time 🙂

This morning the boys shocked me by not waking up ridiculously early! They got up shortly after 6, which meant that without the time change they would have slept until 7. Shocker, I know. This afternoon I don’t plan on doing much of anything. Drew’s mom and aunt are coming up and taking Noah home for an overnight so we’re going to have a “big kid afternoon” with Jake.

Hope everyone has a good week!

  1. So glad that you guys had a good time at Meri’s party! It was *wonderful* to see you! I did like that salsa, but I think that I shouldn’t have pureed it so much. I’ll type out the recipe for you soon. Glad you and Ani got to meet each other! Olivia’s adorable! I uploaded pictures but haven’t gotten the pics off my inlaws’ camera yet (they took a lot!). So did Natalie. Yay for pictures! 🙂 Thank you guys for coming!!!

  2. I’ve never met any blog friends in real life! I guess that’s the way it is when you live in the wild (isolated) west. 😉

  3. Sounds like a very nice weekend. I am so jealous that you got to meet Ani and see Lisanne! What fun! Laura and I should get together out here in the isolated west but with just a state between us we’re still … what? like 12+ hours apart or something??! Ah well, I still love CO.

  4. It was very nice to meet you as well Carol! 🙂 Someday we all will meet! We should do a bloggy gals retreat some day.
