OK, now that everyone has their little Harry Potter books and the movie’s out, hopefully we can stop hearing about it and move on to something else. Sorry, just not a fan. Nothing again HP himself, but I can’t get into it. So while millions of people are huddled away with their nose in a certain book, I’ve been having a fun but busy day at work. A few annoying customers (such as the gent who asked me if the Groth Cabernet was “a good price.”) I wanted to say something like, “Are you an idiot? It’s not like we’re talking about Woodbridge here.” Instead I assured him that it’s not at all inflated. Sigh… I had a couple of my crazies, too, which always makes for an interesting day. And I had my fun, chatty regulars. Love those! I also had this woman come in who has been in before, always on her cell phone. I’m pretty used to ringing up sales while people are on calls, and it doesn’t really bother me any more, especially if they know what they want and just get it and bring it to the counter. Anyway, she hung up as I was handing her the change and she apologized and launched into this story about how she’s divorced and going on a blind date tonight and described the guy to me and said how she wasn’t sure anymore, etc. Long story short, she was on the phone with the friend who was setting them up to make sure he wasn’t, um… how shall we say this… terribly unattractive. I love when people just start telling me these little bits and pieces about their lives! At the very least it makes these people three-dimentional and not just someone buying a bottle of Pinot Grigio.
I have also decided that this Manos del Uruguay is just doomed. First, I cast on for the Yarn Harlot’s One Row Scarf. Didn’t really like it and frogged it. Then I cast on for My So-Called Scarf. Decided that it looks pretty in photos, but I just didn’t care for it in reality. So this morning I finally ripped that back. Decided that I was going to use this for a pair of mittens, and started knitting away when halfway through mitten number one I realized — Oh crap! This is a toddler-sized mitten. Not a Carol-sized mitten. So here we are. Back to square one. I’ve cast on for an adult-sized mitten this time and let’s just hope it goes well and I can complete a project here! It shouldn’t be so hard!!!
