Autumn Get-Away!

Hooray! I have just booked a much-needed, well-deserved weekend get-away for D. and myself. Columbus Day weekend we’ll be spending two crisp, autumn days and one romantic night at The Thayer Hotel at West Point, just the two of us! Of course, I love my children but let’s face it — we all need date nights now and again. It should be prime foliage weekend, too. I cannot wait!

Needless to say, I have already been drooling over the menu. The roast duck with coconut rum sauce sounds especially delicious, but I’m sure the menu changes seasonally. Their wine list is also really nice. I love when restaurants serve local wines (and beers as well). I think I’ve tasted the Millbrook Cabernet Franc, but I’m curious about the Brotherhood Pinot Noir. For those who don’t know, New York has some excellent wineries, and Brotherhood is America’s oldest winery, established in 1839. New York is the third-largest producer of grapes in the nation, and fourth when it comes to number of wineries. But I digress…

Hooray for vacation!

  1. That sounds awesome! I’m *so* happy for you guys! Jeff stays at the Thayer sometimes for work ~ in fact, I think that he’ll be attending a work conference again there soon. I’ve always wanted to go there with him and make a trip of it. Enjoy! Can’t wait to hear about it! Have some wine for me! 🙂
