Quick Craft: Teapot Centerpiece

IMG_7732

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about my blog and I think this year I’m going to attempt to include a lot more crafts and recipes and ideas, rather than just my typical blather. My recipe blog is pretty stagnant (I knew that would happen!) because it’s just a pain to manage three different blogs. So I’ll be including more recipes here this year. Also, I know a lot of you like to craft, but most of us don’t have a lot of time, so I’m going to try to post ideas for quick crafts (I’m thinking 30-minutes or less). This cute teapot centerpiece took me all of 5 minutes to make, and it was cheap, too! For the instructions, continue on.

First, you’ll need your flower and container. I used a 4-inch primrose plant (Bought at grocery store: $2.99) and a teapot that had been sitting on a basement shelf for about four years. I originally bought the teapot at a dollar store (yes it was just $1!), but it’s too big to make tea for just one person. You can find teapots very inexpensively if you look around. You don’t have to use one that is ceramic, you could certainly use an old kettle!

Next, fill the teapot a little less than half-full with styrofoam peanuts (if you have them). I didn’t, but I did have a sheet of styrofoam packaging from a Christmas present, so I just broke that up into pieces.

Last, simply repot the plant into the teapot. I had to work a little bit to get the plant inside because the teapot opening was a little small, but it wasn’t a big deal. And voila! For $3.99 I have a cute, colorful centerpiece. At the grocery store, similar floral designs are $9.99 and up! And considering how freezing cold out it is today, the bright primrose is a welcome hint of spring.

  1. Super cute! And, I always see cute teapots without lids at yard sales and at the Hospice thrift stores. This is a great idea and I can see putting little plants in teapots for teacher gifts and other gift exchanges.
